성 다이앤이 하와이 몰로카이 섬에서 문둥이를 상대로 전도를 했는데 자기 얼굴이 너무 깨끗하니까 전도가 잘 안되더랍니다.

St. Diane went to Molokai, Hawaii, to be a witness to the lepers. But her ministry was ineffective as her face was too clean.

그래서 그는 “하나님, 저도 저 사람들처럼 문둥이 되게 해 주세요” 기도했다는 것입니다.

So, she prayed, “God, help me to be like the lepers.”

왜요? 그들의 영혼을 사랑하니까요. 그리고 그들과 살을 비비며 함께 생활하는 중, 그도 어느 날 문둥이가 돼서 전도를 많이 하고 성자가 되었습니다.

Why? Because she loved their souls. As she lived together with them, she also became a leper and was able to be a witness of Jesus Christ to them.

그렇습니다. 우리가 복음을 전하다가 욕을 먹는다든가 복음을 전하다가 다친다든가 복음을 전하다가 손해 보고, 고난 당하고, 환란을 당해도 겁낼것 없습니다. 그것이야말로 놀라운 축복입니다.

That’s right. We do not need to be afraid of being reviled while preaching the gospel. We should not fear suffering loss or facing obstacles. In fact, experiencing them for the sake of the gospel will be a great blessing.

하나님께서는 금생과 내생에 영원히 복을 주신다고 했습니다.

God promised to bless us in this life and the life to come.

이 세상에 그 무엇과도 비교할 수 없는 하나님의 영광으로 보상해 주시고 위로해 주실 것입니다.

God will reward us and comfort us with the greatest glory that cannot be compared to anything in this world.

하늘의 별과 같이 빛나는 축복을 약속했습니다.

God promised a blessing that shines brightly like the stars.

당대만이 아니라 자손 만대에 이르기까지 은혜와 복을 주신다고 했습니다.

Not only did God promise blessings to the present generation, but also to the generations to come.

그 복음을 전파하라고 하나님은 우리에게 가정도 주었습니다.

God blessed us with family so that we would preach the gospel.

자녀도 주었습니다. 사업도 주었습니다. 직장도 주었습니다. 교회도 주었습니다. 학문도 주었습니다. 돈도 주었습니다. 여러 가지 은사도 주었습니다.

God also gave us children, businesses, work, education, church, money, and various spiritual gifts.

그리고 하나님은 이 땅에 많은 사람들에게 전도하라고 다양한 크리스챤들을 두신 것입니다.

God appointed various Christians in this world so that they could evangelize to many more.

과부는 과부에게, 병든사람은 병든사람에게, 가난한 사람은 가난한 사람에게 성공한 사람은 성공한 사람에게 부자는 부자에게 전도해라.

Widows can minister to other widows. Sick people can minister to other sick people. Those who are poor can minister to others who are going through the same struggle. The wealthy can minister to those who are wealthy.

그래서 바울도 유대인에게는 유대인처럼, 이방인에게는 이방인처럼 전도했다고 했습니다.

For this reason, Paul became a Jew in order to win Jews. He also became a Gentile to win the Gentiles.
