오늘도 우리는 말씀 따라 살아야지 믿음으로 살아야지, 그러다가도 가끔 지치고 쓰러집니다.

We must live by God’s word and in faith. However, there are times when we grow weary and stumble.

그 어떤 문제를 만나면 내 나름대로 하고 싶으면 하고, 하기 싫으면 안 합니다. 아브라함도 그랬습니다.

When faced with challenges, we often act according to our own desires—doing what we want and avoiding what we don’t. Abraham was no different.

한없이 나약한 인간의 모습을 보였습니다. 그럼에도 불구하고 아브라함은 하나님의 말씀을 붙잡고 언제나 다시 일어서는 신앙의 용기가 있었습니다.

He showed the weakness of human nature countless times. Yet, despite his failures, Abraham always held on to God’s word and had the courage of faith to rise again.

유명한 토레이 목사님이 젊은 시절에는 신앙이 없었습니다. 자기 힘을 의지하며 세상일에 분주했습니다.

The well-known pastor Torrey, did not have faith in his younger years. He relied on his own strength and was busy with worldly affairs.

그런 아들을 보고 어느 날 어머니가‘얘야, 네가 이다음에 인생의 막다른 골목에 이르거든 좌절하지 말고 이 어미가 믿는 하나님께 신앙의 용기를 가지고 찾아라 그리하면 그 하나님이 반드시 구원해 주실 것이다.’

One day, his mother told him: “My son, if you ever reach a dead end in life, do not despair. Instead, have the courage of faith and seek the God whom I believe in. He will surely save you.”

결국 자기 힘을 의지하던 토레이는 실패하고 말았습니다. 물질이 없어지고, 친구들이 다 떠나가고, 막다른 골목에 이르러 자살을 결심했습니다.

Torrey eventually failed. His wealth disappeared, his friends abandoned him, and he reached a point of complete hopelessness. He even considered ending his own life.

그런데 그때 어머니가 일러 주었던 ‘신앙의 용기를 가지고 하나님을 찾아보라’말이 생각났습니다.

But at that moment, he remembered his mother’s words: “Have the courage of faith and seek God.”

마지막으로 신앙의 용기를 가지고 하나님께 매달렸더니 하나님께서 그를 구원해 주시고 훌륭한 목사가 되게 해 주셨습니다.

With his last bit of strength, he cried out to God—and God saved him. Torrey later became a great pastor.

그렇습니다. 사람은 누구나 잘못할 수 있습니다. 그러나 비록 잘못했더라도 신앙의 용기를 가지고 다시 일어서는 사람을 하나님은 좋아하십니다. 그리고 그에게 복을 주시는 줄로 믿습니다.

Yes, everyone makes mistakes. But God delights in those who, even after failure, have the courage of faith to rise again. He blesses those who stand up in faith.

그렇습니다. 성경은 우리에게 과거 옛날은 그냥 잊으라고 합니다. 현재를 중요하게 생각하라는 것입니다. 지금까지 내가 성공했든지 실패했든지 바르게 살았든지 바르게 살지 못했든지 부하든지 가난하든지 건강하든지 병들었든지 그것은 문제 되지 않습니다.

The Bible teaches us to forget the past and focus on the present. It does not matter whether we have succeeded or failed, lived rightly or wrongly, been rich or poor, healthy or sick—what matters is how we live now.
