일찍이 하나님께서는 인간을 창조하시고 두 가지 명령을 했습니다. 하나는 문화명령, 그리고 복음명령 입니다.

When God created mankind, He gave us two commands. One was the cultural mandate and the other was the gospel mandate.

문화명령은 인간이 타락하기 이전에 주신 명령으로 하나님이 우주만물을 다 창조하신 후“너희는 생육하고 번성하여 땅에 충만하라 땅을 정복하라 모든 생명을 다스리라”는 것입니다.

The cultural mandate is the command that God gave to mankind before the fall. God commanded mankind to “Be fruitful and multiply,” “To fill the earth,” and “To have dominion over all living things.”

그리고 복음 명령은 인간이 타락한 후 주신 명령으로 “그러므로 너희는 가서 모든 족속으로 제자를 삼아 아버지와 아들과 성령의 이름으로 세례를 주고 내가 너희에게 분부한 모든 것을 가르쳐 지키게 하라”는 것입니다.

The gospel mandate, on the other hand, is the command that God gave to mankind after the fall. “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you.”

이 두 가지 명령은 선택의 여지가 없습니다. 해도 되고 안 해도 되는 것이 아니라 반드시 해야 합니다. 기쁨과 감사합으로 순종해야 합니다.

We do not have a choice when it comes to these two commands. It is not optional. We must obey with joy and thanksgiving.

그런데 우리들을 가만히 보면 가정을 이루고 자녀를 낳고 이웃과 화목하고 공의와 질서를 이루는 문화명령은 대체로 잘 하고 있습니다.

If we look closely, we are pretty good at obeying the cultural mandate. We are forming families and raising our children. We live with our neighbors and try to follow order in society.

그러나 복음명령, 영혼 구원을 위해서 전도하는 일에는 문제가 많다는 것입니다. 그것이 하나님이 가장 기뻐하시는 일이요 성도의 생애 속에 가장 귀한 일이요 영광스러운 일임에도 불구하고 전도를 잘 하지 않습니다. 왜 그렇습니까?

But when it comes to the gospel mandate, we have trouble obeying God. God is pleased the most when we preach the gospel. It is the most precious and glorious privilege that a believer has. And yet, we struggle to obey this commandment. Why?

사람마다 좀 다르겠습니다만 영적인 일이기에 우리에게 쓸데없는 생각이 많아서 그렇습니다.

It might be different for everyone, but people tend to think that this spiritual act is a waste of time.

내가 예수 믿으라고 하면 혹시 그 사람이 어떻게 생각할까?  혹시라도 오해하지 않을까?

If I tell this person to believe in Jesus, what will he think of me? Will I be misunderstood?

나를 무례하다고 하지 않을까? 믿을까, 안 믿을까? 그냥 거절하면 어쩌나. 여러 생각과 두려운마음, 체면, 위신 이것저것 따지다 보니 못하는 것입니다.

Will he think I am rude? Will he believe or reject? What if he rejects? All kinds of thoughts and fears paralyze us. We become self-conscious.

그리고 내 자신이 신앙과 믿음에 확신이 없습니다. 내 생활에 부끄러운 것이 많이 있는데 나 같은 사람이 어떻게 전도하나?

Furthermore, we are not confident enough in our own faith. I am ashamed of a lot of things in life, but how can someone like me evangelize another person?

그래서 못하는 것입니다. 그러나 우리가 분명히 알아야 하는 것은 신앙생활의 최우선이 전도입니다.

This is the reason we do not go out. But one thing we must know clearly is that evangelism is the top priority in our spiritual walk.
