“마음이 겸손하여 겸손한 자와 함께하는 것이 교만한 자와 함께하여 탈취물을 나누는 것보다 나으니라.” (잠언 16:19)

교만한 자는 하나님을 두려워하지 않는 자이다. 그는 수단과 방법을 가리지 않고 세상적인 이익이나 높은 지위를 탈취하려 한다. 그런 자와 함께하는 자는 이익을 위하여 죄악을 범하는 일에 동참하는 자이므로 큰 이득을 얻는다.

겸손한 자는 하나님을 두려워하는 자이다. 그는 모든 일을 정직하게 하여 당장 큰 이익이 없다. 그런 자와 함께하여 마음을 낮추는 자는 이익이 없어도 올바른 길을 가고자 하는 자이다. 그 결과는 교만한 자보다 나은데, 하나님이 겸손한 자를 향하여 그 얼굴빛을 비추시고 은혜를 부으시기 때문이다.

눈앞의 성공보다 과정이 더 중요한 것은 하나님이 함께하시는 삶이 복되기 때문이다. 조급한 마음을 버리고
하나님만 바라보며 살아가리라.

A Better Life

“It is better to be of a lowly spirit with the poor than to divide the spoil with the proud.” (Proverbs 16:19)

The proud do not fear God. They seek to attain worldly gains and status by any means
necessary. Those who are with them participate in sinful acts to gain profits or spoils.
In contrast, the humble fear God. Because they do everything with integrity, there is no
immediate gain. Their companions choose the right path, even without reward.

Ultimately, the humble are better off because God shines His face on them and pours
out His grace. The means is more important than the end, for a life with God is most
blessed. Therefore, I will cast aside my impatience and look only to God.
