- 신앙의 용기가 있었습니다. He had the courage of faith.
하나님께서 아브라함에게‘내가 네게 보여줄 땅으로 가라’했을 때에 ‘이에 아브라함이 여호와의 말씀을 따라갔고 가나안 땅을 지나 세겜 땅 모레 상수리 나무에 이르고 벧엘 동쪽 산으로… 점점 남방으로 옮겨 갔더라.’
When God said to Abraham, “Go to the land I will show you.” Abraham followed the word of the LORD, “traveled through the land as far as the site of the great tree of Moreh at Shechem. From there he went on toward the hills east of Bethel… and gradually moved south.”
말씀을 자세히 보면 아브라함은 하나님의 말씀 따라 계속 움직이는 것을 볼 수 있습니다.
If we look closely, we see that Abraham continuously moved according to God’s word.
그것이 아브라함의 신앙의 용기입니다. 하나님의 말씀을 따라 행동화했다는 것입니다. 그렇다면 아브라함이 다 잘했느냐? 그렇지 않습니다. 실수하고 잘못도 많이 했습니다.
This was his courage of faith—he put God’s word into action. But does that mean Abraham did everything perfectly? No. He made many mistakes and poor choices.
사실 어떻게 보면 하나님이 약속하신 땅이지만 그 가는 길이 순탄치 않았습니다. 순례의 길이고 힘든 험악한 길이었습니다.
In fact, though God had promised him the land, the journey there was not easy. It was a pilgrimage, a difficult and treacherous path.
그저 쉽게 축복이 주어진 게 아닙니다. 수없이 지치고 쓰러졌습니다. 그럴 때마다 하나님은 아브라함에게 신앙의 용기를 요구했습니다. 때로는 그 땅에 흉년이 들었습니다.
Blessings were not given to him effortlessly. He grew weary, he stumbled countless times, but each time, God required courage of faith from him. At times, there was a famine in the land.
자 보세요! 하나님께서 네 자손에게 주리라고 약속하신 가나안 그 땅에 흉년이 들었습니다. 이것이 문제입니다. 하나님께서 주신 땅에 왜 흉년이 듭니까? 그것이 이해 안 된다고 애굽으로 내려갑니다.
Think about it! The very land that God promised to give to Abraham’s descendants was struck by famine. This was a challenge—why would there be famine in the land given by God? Because he could not understand, Abraham went down to Egypt.
아니 하나님이 주신 땅이면 흉년이 들어도 하나님이 책임져 주실 텐데 먹을 것 찾아 애굽으로 왜 내려갑니까?
But if God had given the land, wouldn’t He have also provided for him there? Why go down to Egypt to find food?
하나님의 도우심과 은혜로 다시 무사히 돌아오기는 합니다만 이 일로 400년 동안 아브라함의 후손이 애굽의 종살이를 하게 됩니다.
Though God, in His grace, eventually brought Abraham back safely, this decision led to consequences—his descendants later suffered 400 years of slavery in Egypt.
그뿐입니까? 하나님께서 자식을 주겠다고 했으면 그것을 믿어야 하는데, 사라는 나이 많아 생산치 못하니 사라의 종 하갈과 동침하여 이스마엘을 낳습니다.
And that was not the only mistake. When God promised Abraham a son, he should have believed. But because Sarah was old and could no longer bear children, they took matters into their own hands. Abraham took Hagar, Sarah’s servant, and through her, Ishmael was born.
이 일로 오늘까지 이스라엘과 이스마엘 후손들 사이에는 싸우고 있습니다.
The consequences of that decision continue even today in the ongoing conflict between the descendants of Israel and Ishmael.
